  • Late Night Gallery Open on Friday 20th September from 6pm – 9pm for Culture Night

This body of work presents a portrait gallery of nearly unrecognizable individuals living in a state of liminality—neither here nor there. Preceding the creation of these works, An Táin Arts Centre’s Artist in Residence, Els Borghart conducted storytelling sessions with Ukrainian nationals, which deepened her connection to their narratives and inspired these portraits. They are losing the life they once knew and are trying to find ways to rebuild anew. These figures appear and disappear, tremble, vibrate, and fade in and out of different realities, capturing the simultaneous experiences of melancholy, loneliness, and hardship alongside a persistent desire for positivity, gratitude, and hope.

Culture Night is an annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts supported by the Arts Council and Louth County Council.
