Written by American playwright John Pielmeier, the play is based on a true occurrence and tells the story of a novice nun who gives birth but does not believe she has. After the child is found dead, a psychiatrist and the Mother Superior of the convent clash during the resulting investigation.

It opened on Broadway in 1982 and won two Tony awards that year . The subsequent film version starring Jane Fonda , Ann Bancroft and Meg Tilly garnered three Oscar nominations.

Jane Fee, Aine Gilmore and Aoife Curran Butler play the roles of Agnes , Doctor Livingstone and Reverend Mother respectively . The play is directed by Gerry Roddy.
