Former Writer in Residence Radhika Iyer
Why Are You Here? is an intimate and charged exploration of family, culture and the complexities of care. Janaki an Indian woman in her sixties visits her daughter Lata, now living in Dundalk Ireland.

It is a year since the death of Janaki’s husband and she finds herself far from the familiar, preparing a traditional meal with her daughter, where the kitchen becomes a battleground of cultural clashes and generational divides. As they cook, they navigate through memories, accusations, and attempts at understanding.

Why Are You Here? is a poignant reflection on the intersection of Indian and Irish cultures, the impact of migration, and the nuanced dynamics of familial duty and care. The audience are immersed into the intimate setting, sharing the aromas and tastes of the meal that symbolizes the complex blend of tradition and change.
